A Guide to Beds
By Time4Sleep Beds Published: 07/07/2011
The following guide is designed to help home owners understand the different types of beds available on the current UK market.
Children’s beds
Bunk Bed: no child’s bedroom would be complete at some point in their life without a bunk bed. It is most likely the most popular bed for children or the most asked for bed of any kind (even some grownups secretly want one!). Not only is it fun and exciting but also very functional. It is designed for families with twins, several children or those that have friends round regularly. The only negative is whether your child is old enough to sleep so high from the ground; bunk bed features reduce the risk but a young child may still consider not using the ladder.
High Sleepers: If there isn’t any need for a double bunk then the excitement doesn’t have to dwindle there. High sleepers provide the same level of fun and adventure but come with only one bed, and tend to be a little lower. This means that they are perfect for small bedrooms - under the bed can usually be found a desk, a wardrobe or a set of fully functioning drawers, saving a great deal of floor space.
Themed Beds: If a bunk bed or high sleeper isn’t fun enough and something a bit more special is needed, then a themed bed is in order. A themed bed is a specially made frame that can be shaped to form any number of objects. For boys you could have racing cars or pirate ships, and for girls you could have a fairy wonderland or princesses carriage. Be aware that when spending money on a themed bed that it will be grown out of quite quickly.
Adult Beds
TV Beds: If watching TV is one of the most relaxing parts of your day then the idea of a TV bed is probably heaven – the epitome of luxury. A TV bed is a bed with an electronic compartment that holds and hides away a flat screen TV – controlled by a remote. Of course the TV will come separately but if you splash out on both you can have the bedroom of a reality TV celebrity.
Double Beds: The name doesn’t say it all! A double bed doesn’t have to be for two. The double bed is larger than a single and can be for couples who don’t have room for a king size or queen size. It doesn’t have to be for a couple and can just be for someone looking for a large and comfortable bed.
Storage Beds: A storage bed is the best choice for the home owner that’s worrying about the size of a double bed. If you’re thinking of decorating and have a small room then you’re going to need to maximise all space available. A storage bed or ottoman bed is designed to use up all available space within the frame of the bed so that you don’t need to have extra drawers in the room as well.
